PROTECTION OF THE BUILDING AGAINST THE
RISK OF ANY EARTHQUAKE
Polat Tower Residence is projected and constructed according to the Legislation
of Ministry of Public Works - 1st degree earthquake region data, which is published
in 1998. The building is settled on the main reef because this settlement reduces
the degree of earthquake load to its minimum. The building is constructed on a
basis of 1764 m2, a mixture of 800 concrete and 1000 tons
of steel. First time in Turkey, a tool measuring the intensity of the earthquake
is placed at the basin in order to warn the Automation Center to cut the natural
gas connection, reserve water and electricity systems, and turn on the fire intervention
system before the shake starts.
This system also provides monitoring of the response of the building to both
the main and latter shocks.

Bricks are used as little as possible during the construction. A static solution
based on a concrete curtain wall minimizes the effects of the earthquake. A committee
leaded by Prof. Dr. Ahmet ERCAN examines through, the building, and a detailed
report on the performance and resistability of the building during the quake is
stated. The building is planned to be open on 22nd of April and around half of
the apartments are already sold out.
